Standard Fees for Psychotherapy Services

As an out-of-network provider, Shine the Light Counseling does not accept insurance. However, we will help you submit for reimbursement through your insurance company by providing “superbills,” or detailed receipts of services, if you choose to do so.

Any psychotherapy services covered by insurance require a formal diagnosis (whether in or out of network). We will work with you to understand the best diagnosis for you. If you do not wish to receive a diagnosis or it is not merited, that is your right; however, insurance will not cover costs.

Check with your insurance provider ahead of beginning appointments to understand their reimbursement policy. Each policy is different; some cover the majority of the session costs, while others do not cover any out-of-network expenses. Call the number on the back of your insurance card for more information.

Standard Session Fee Schedule:

  • 50-minute session: $165 (most common, standard session rate)

  • 30 minute session: $135

  • 50-minute family session: $165

  • Crisis psychotherapy – first hour: $200

  • Crisis psychotherapy – additional 30 minutes add-on: $150

  • 75 minute session: $250

  • 90 minute session: $300

  • 2 hour session: $375

Other Fees Schedule:

  • Late Cancellation Fee: $165 (A late cancellation is a no-show or cancellation under 48 hours from the scheduled start time of a session for any reason.  This may also be charged if a client is more than 15 minutes late for an appointment.)

  • Legal and Court Fees: $200 per hour plus expenses. $1600 retainer in advance for days I am expected in court.  Court hours (including travel time) billed in minimum blocks of 4 hours ($800) each.  (I will rarely agree to voluntarily participate in legal/court matters.)

  • Medical Records Request: The lesser of $75 or the maximum allowable by law. (These are often required to be free.) 

  • Immigration Mental Health Evaluations: $1,000
