Wellness Tips for Self Care
Taking time for yourself can be hard. We often prioritize the needs of others and forget to carve out precious time for ourselves. This often leads to burn out, bitterness, and exhaustion. Here are a few small steps you can take to start caring for you, too.
Note: If it seems overwhelming, just start with one!
Sleep!
Sleep is one of the most important things we can do for ourselves. A solid 8 hours of sleep a night not only helps our bodies to rest and recharge, it also helps our brain to process memories, including traumatic memories.
Drink Water
(And other hydrating beverages.) Carry that water bottle with you. Have water by your bed or at your desk. Put it in places so you don’t forget.
Eat Well (enough)
No need to be a health freak – I also love my sweets! – but be sure to get enough nutrients in the day. Eat a variety of foods in order to nourish your body and soul.
Move your Body
Even if it’s a short walk or intentional stretches, move. Get up. Find movement that feels good for you and fits into your lifestyle. If you’re able to carve out enough time for a workout, excellent, but even without it, find a few moments to intentionally move your body.
Practice a Hobby
Find a hobby you enjoy. This doesn’t have to be something elaborate (although it can be). Ideas include reading, journaling, drawing in a coloring book, painting, writing poetry, playing an instrument, playing with Legos, joining a team sport or class, hiking, and many more!
Limit Screen Time
I know, you’ve heard it a million times. But try it – what happens if, for a week, you drastically limit your social media and TV time?
